Back to School BBQ

Brand new supplies and a new backpack make back-to-school fun! This program, which is funded by the CCRB and other grants, offers our children with serious emotional disorders and their siblings the chance to return to school in the fall with all the supplies other kids have. It’s a fun and exciting afternoon that often motivates even those children who are not particularly fond of school.

Our event is held at a local park and playground from late afternoon to early evening so that families can stop by and pick up their school supplies. Instead of having to race home to fix dinner, families are treated to pizza and beverages. The families enjoy being able to visit with each other, and the children get to release some of the excitement and energy created by their anticipation of school.

Planning for this event is a year long effort for F.A.C.T. staff, beginning with writing grants to fund the program, gathering supply lists from local districts, and collecting supplies and backpacks. This event is eagerly awaited each year not only by the families and children, but also by F.A.C.T. staff and board members. Visit our site to see pictures and stories from this great event!
